Fuerteventura Holiday

We have just returned from a short holiday in Fuerteventura, which has the reputation of being the most naturist friendly of the Canary Islands. We stayed in Corralejo on the northern tip of the island and hired a car so that we could travel around.

Our first trip was to the village of El Cotillo, a 20 minute drive away. There is also a bus service there from Corralejo.
From the village we turned north towards the Lighthouse (Faro de Tostón). We passed a textile beach and then very soon afterwards saw a line of cars parked off the road to our left. We parked here and walked down the short path to a small beach[Playa Los Charcos III].
There was only about 20 people there. It was 100% naturist and we spent a very pleasant afternoon there. We relaxed in one of the man made volcanic rock shelters dotted around. The sea there is a lagoon and is shallow and sheltered, if a bit rocky – see photo(1). 

After we left we stopped off at the nearby textile beach for a coffee. As we sat in the beach café two ladies walked along the seashore. One was naked and the other wore a bikini and no one batted an eyelid.

The next day we travelled to the resort of Costa Calma in the south of the island, a drive of 90 minutes.  At the southern end of the resort are 2 large hotels. We drove past the more southern one (H10 Hotel Esmeralda) for a short distance onto an unpaved road and parked. We walked down the path onto a glorious beach, Playa Esmeralda – see photos 2 & 3.
It was at least 95% naturist. The sea was shallow and warm and there are loungers there for hire. Beyond this beach are several more beautiful beaches which are also naturist. If you want to have a long naturist walk these beaches are ideal.

Our final naturist excursion was to the beaches and sand dunes which start 4km south of Corralejo.
There are 2 large hotels on the beach quite close to each other. My guidebook said that naturists used the beach 200m away from each of the hotels but we discovered that this wasn’t fully accurate. We parked on the road north of the first hotel and walked across the dunes to the loungers. However this part of the beach, which is very rocky along the shoreline, was almost 100% textile, even when we continued walking for another 10 minutes. We sunbathed for a few minutes and then decided to leave.

We drove to the second hotel and parked there. After stopping in the beach café for coffee we then walked south along the beach[Grandes Playas de Corralejo] and after about 100 metres the number of people wearing swimsuits was outnumbered by naturists. The loungers in this area (€10 per day for 2 loungers with an umbrella) were shared by textiles and naturists alike and the atmosphere was easy and relaxed.  If you don’t have a car it’s easy to get a taxi from Corralejo to this beach.

We really enjoyed our holiday and will definitely return to Fuerteventura and explore the many other naturist beaches there.
